When it comes to posting a package, I think you need to go a long distance to impress a post office clerk. That said, a package Desiree’s daughter sent to her from Manila managed to impress both me and one of the clerks at the post office.
When a clerk produced the package
from the back of the post office and placed it on the counter where Desiree and
I stood waiting, I first thought the package had been wrapped with some kind of
decorative paper. As squinted at the
package, evaluating, anther clerk said: “Wow, is that all stamps? That’s cool.”
Sure enough, almost half the
package was covered with stamps. Rather
than posting by means of a single printed sticker, the post office in the
Philippines used sheets of postage stamps—150 stamps in total.
