Last night, I
watched a video segment from a hospital in Spain.
Spain has been
devastated by Covid-19. As of this
morning, the virus has killed 9,053 people there. Yesterday, 748 people died. The day before: 913.
Those are shocking
numbers when you consider Spain has a population 1/8th the size of
ours.
The Covid-19
virus is insidious. Many of the doctors
and nurses treating the stricken also fell victim to the disease.
The virus responsible
for all this devastation may live for days and days on some surfaces. We are only beginning to know the exact
details. Cleaning ad disinfecting is
critical. Scrubbing with soap and
disinfectant, literally, saves lives.
The video I
watched featured a group of doctors and nurses—all dressed from head to toe in
personal protective equipment—greeting the arrival of the hospital cleaning
staff.
The cleaning crew
were similarly covered in protective clothing and gear.
Upon the arrival
of the cleaning crew to begin their shift, the doctors and nurses gathered and
gave the crew a standing ovation to show their heartfelt appreciation.
Right now, the
cleaning staff at our hospitals are among the most important people on this
planet. They are, at their own risk,
saving all of us.
