Choosing the Proper Tool

Choosing the proper tool for the job is key for all endeavors. That said, sometimes, when dealing with food, your standard cooking utensils and array of sharp knives may not offer the horsepower required for a job. On rare occasions, you may be forced to drag construction tools into the kitchen as part of the culinary process.

When Desiree mentioned she needed to cut some whole frozen fish she’d retrieved from one freezer into sections so she could store them in a smaller freezer, I instantly recognized the required tool: my hacksaw

The saw performed well and provided quick, clean cuts. But I already had in mind applying my corded reciprocating saw to the fish if the hacksaw failed.

Fisherman Jack

Jack, age six, went fishing along the creek running through my cabin property yesterday.  Turns out, he is quite a fisherman.  He managed to pull three brook trout from deep pools created by a series of small beaver dams.

Catching a brook trout from a mountain stream is no easy task.  I commend the little man.

The fish were not huge (though I did make one look pretty big by means of point-of-view.  All three (Christmas ornamenty) fish were successfully released back into the cool pools so they can grow bigger and prettier.

Posted are photos of Jack at work along the creek.

The Names of Fish

I have fished for trout my entire life, but only recently learned the names of the sexes for these fish.

A male trout is referred to as a cock trout.

The female is called a hen.

I also caught a lot of sucker fish while fishing.

I wonder, what do you call a male sucker?
